ADCC bronze medalist Daniel Schuardt explains why he chose to train with Danaher instead of Craig Jones
The Australian said his then-girlfriend, now his wife, thought B Team looked like a "frat house" and weighed in on the decision to go to Kingsway.
Australian Daniel Schuardt, a bronze medalist at ADCC 2026, explained in a video interview why he went to train with John Danaher at Kingsway, and not at B Team, Craig Jones's academy, when he moved to the United States.
According to Schuardt, the decision was not his alone. His partner, now his wife, looked at B Team's social media and thought the place looked like a "frat house." She wanted him to go to the United States to work seriously, and the choice went to Kingsway.
Friendship with Craig Jones
Schuardt and Craig Jones are friends and trained together in Australia, and Schuardt himself acknowledges that Jones helped his development. He said Jones was upset that he did not join B Team and that he feels a little bad about it. But he said it was never meant as a snub and that the story is "not that deep."
Why Danaher
The Australian said he has no regrets. He explained that, as an athlete, he needs a coach who tells him clearly what to do, and that Danaher's style fits the way he learns. He also praised Lachlan Giles, one of B Team's coaches, and said he probably would have had a good experience there too.
