Brazil's Ruan Alvarenga beat Japan's Shoya Ishiguro by split decision in a featherweight grappling match at ONE Fight Night 48. The event took place on Friday, October 2, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The match lasted 10 minutes and was even from start to finish, with plenty of leg-lock exchanges. Ishiguro started out threatening the Brazilian's legs, but it was Alvarenga who locked in a heel hook first and took the lead.

The Japanese grappler fought back, got to the mount and was then reversed. Near the end, Ishiguro also locked in a heel hook and leveled the contest. In the decision, the judges took aggressiveness into account and gave the win to Alvarenga by split decision.

Second straight win

It was Alvarenga's second straight win in ONE Championship. On August 14, at ONE Fight Night 46, also at Lumpinee, he beat fellow Brazilian Meyram Maquine by unanimous decision in a featherweight rematch.

At the same event on Friday, Brazil's Antonio Cesar beat Joshua Perreira in MMA at flyweight. Perreira's corner stopped the fight at the end of the first round.
