The rematch between José Aldo and Marlon "Chito" Vera ended in a draw. The two met on Sunday, October 4, in the Hype FC main event at the Coliseo General Rumiñahui in Quito, Ecuador.

It was a grappling match, a single 10-minute round, with wins by submission only. Since neither man managed a submission, the judges announced a draw.

How the match went

Vera, who was fighting at home and came in driven by the crowd, was the more active of the two. He went for takedowns from the start and tried to lock in submissions, but the Brazilian defended until the end. It was a tactical match, without big turnarounds.

At the end, the two embraced in the octagon. "It doesn't matter how many times you fall, it matters how many times you get up," Vera said after the match, according to the newspaper El Universo.

The first fight

Their first meeting was in MMA, in the UFC, in December 2020, and Aldo won by unanimous decision. Before the rematch, the former UFC champion told the website Primicias that he accepted the invitation because he felt he owed the Ecuadorian this fight.

The Quito event featured grappling and bare-knuckle boxing matches.
