South American Championship

Gabriel Petersen wins the South American Championship and reaches 32 wins in 32 matches

The brown belt from São José dos Campos won the CBJJ South American Championship in Barueri. Alexia Arantes, from Varginha, took gold at black belt.

The CBJJ South American Jiu-Jitsu Championship was held from September 25 to 27 at the Ginásio José Corrêa in Barueri (São Paulo).

Gabriel Petersen, from São José dos Campos, won the fourth South American title of his career. Promoted to brown belt in July, he competed in 13 straight tournaments between June and September and won all 32 matches he fought in that period.

During that run, Petersen also became São Paulo state champion, won the IBJJF BJJ Pro in Curitiba and was an IBJJF no-gi champion in Rio de Janeiro. According to the São José dos Campos City Hall, he leads the CBJJ national ranking in his division and is fifth in the IBJJF world ranking.

The athlete trains at Calasans Camargo (Associação Esporte Dez) under coaches Claudio Calasans and Álvaro Borges, and receives support from the city's Sports Tax Incentive Law.

Gold at black belt

In Barueri, black belt Alexia Arantes, from Vision Jiu-Jitsu Varginha (Minas Gerais), won the adult middleweight division. With the title, she rose to fifth place in the CBJJ ranking in her division.
