UAE sets record with five golds in jiu-jitsu at the Asian Games
The UAE team finished the competition in Nagoya, Japan, with eight medals. Jiu-jitsu has been on the Games program since 2018.
The United Arab Emirates team won five gold medals in jiu-jitsu at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan. It is the country's record gold haul in the sport, which joined the Games program at Jakarta 2018.
In total there were eight medals: five gold, two silver and one bronze. The matches took place from October 1 to 3 at the Aichi Budokan in Nagoya, with eight weight classes: five for men and three for women.
The UAE champions
- Balqees Alhashmi: women's up to 48 kg
- Asma Alhosani: women's up to 52 kg
- Khaled Al Shehhi: men's up to 62 kg
- Ahmed Andeez: men's up to 69 kg
- Mahdi Al Awlaqi: men's up to 77 kg
Khaled Al Shehhi won his second straight title at the Games. Asma Alhosani, the defending champion, beat South Korea's Im Eon-ju 4-0 in the final. In the up to 48 kg division, the final was between two UAE athletes: Balqees Alhashmi took gold and Al Anoud Al Harbi took silver.
The country's gold count grows with each edition: two at Jakarta 2018, four at Hangzhou and now five at Aichi-Nagoya.
Other results
In the men's up to 94 kg, Saudi Arabia's Omar Tariq N Nada submitted South Korea's Park Sung-hu in the final. South Korea finished with two silvers and two bronzes.
"Our participation was a success in every respect and we reached the goals we set before the competition," said Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, vice president of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation.

The Atos leader competed in the adult division at the Pan No-Gi, won his quarterfinal and semifinal 2-0 and took silver at super-heavyweight. The gold went to Natã Tenca, from the same team.

The Pole won the medium heavyweight division in New Jersey three weeks after his ADCC title. Among the women, Sarah Galvão took her weight class and the open class, and Helena Crevar won the super heavyweight division.
